FC Utrecht delighted

FC Utrecht beat Feyenoord in Stadium Galgenwaard: 3-2.

In a spectacular match, FC Utrecht beat Feyenoord. The Utrecht team decided the match in the fifth minute of extra time. Timo Letschert thrilled the twelfth man: 3-2.

Surprises are the best when you do not expect them. An ultimate example of that is the goal Timo Letschert scored in the fifth minute of  extra time against Feyenoord. Half an hour earlier, the Rotterdam team were facing a 2-0 backlog, but they took back control  slowly but surely. Sam Larsson and Robin van Persie brought the score back to 2-2 and at that moment it seemed that if the match would get a winner, it would be Feyenoord.

Letschert brings FC Utrecht ecstasy
But it turned out different in a full Stadium Galgenwaard. Completely different. No other than public favourite Timo Letschert brought himself and even more so the FC Utrecht supporters into ecstasy in the final seconds of the game. He worked the ball in the goal: 3-2 for FC Utrecht. Not one, but three points. Not a draw against a top club, but a victory against Feyenoord!

Ultimate reward
It was the ultimate reward for an unforgettable afternoon in Stadium Galgenwaard. ‘Amazing Grace’ by Pia Latoya, ‘UTRECHT BUIGT NOOIT’ on the Bunnik End, ‘UTREG’ on the south side, scarfs everywhere in the stadium. The flags on the pitch, the four torches, one for every victim of the dramatic events that happened in Utrecht on March 18, the deafening silence. The applause after 18 minutes, also from the visiting supporters. Goosebumps, over and over again.

Strong start
FC Utrecht started strong after the ceremony on the pitch, but did not get many chances. After half an hour, Urby Emanuelson scored the 1-0 with a beautiful free kick. The Utrecht lead was doubled after an hour by Sander van de Streek, after an assist by Jean-Christophe Bahebeck: 2-0. Then it seemed that Feyenoord took control of the game, but FC Utrecht fought back, and how. 3-2!

Two games next week
There is not much time for afterglow. Wednesday Dick Advocaat’s team visit VVV-Venlo and Saturday they play an away game against ADO Den Haag. The next home game for FC Utrecht will be against Vitesse on April 14. The game starts at 16.45. Tickets are available online and in the FC Utrecht fanshop.
