FC Utrecht beaten 2-0 by FC Emmen

For the second time this season FC Utrecht were forced to leave the points to FC Emmen. Dick Advocaat’s team were beaten 2-0 last night (Saturday) in De Oude Meerdijk by Dick Lukkien’s team.

In a time frame of just a few seconds Gyrano Kerk had two opportunities to fire on the Emmen goal. In both instances Kjell Scherpen came to the rescue. These were opportunities the Utrechters had been waiting for for a long time in Drenthe, where they could not break down the wall that was set up by FC Emmen. Think about it: the opportunities for Kerk arose at the beginning of the second half, when the striker substituted Urby Emanuelson.

Turnaround fails
Also Leon Guwara started the second half as a substitute. He replaced Nicolas Gavory. With Kerk and Guwara in the team a few opportunities were created, but the turnaround many Utrechters had hoped for failed. A Riechedly Bazoer shot, a header by  – the third substitute of the evening – Cyriel Dessers. That was about all Dick Advocaat’s team could do.

FC Emmen very efficient
In turn the players from Emmen were pretty efficient in dealing with the opportunities they had. After thirty minutes 1-0 was scored from a corner. The ball landed near the far post with Michael de Leeuw and he headed the ball in. Ten minutes later Keziah Veendorp took aim. The midfielder was given the opportunity to fire on goal on the edge of the box and did a perfect job; the ball disappeared into the far corner: 2-0.

No goal
In the second half FC Utrecht increased the pressure, but the players from Emmen played compact and did not falter in an atmospheric and sold out De Oude Meerdijk. This is how the FC from Dom City did not succeed in scoring for the third time in a row in a league match.

Fortuna Sittard home match
On Wednesday there is another match waiting for FC Utrecht. Fortuna Sittard will then be visiting Stadium Galgenwaard, where the kick-off is at 19:45. After the home match against Fortuna two league matches of this season are remaining: away against Ajax on Sunday 12 May and the home match against sc Heerenveen on 15 May.
