FC Utrecht draw against Vitesse in atmospheric Stadium Galgenwaard.

A draw Sunday evening in Stadium Galgenwaard. FC Utrecht and Vitesse proved equal to each other in the best visited match between both teams ever. There were no goals: 0-0.

Jake Clarke-Salter headed the ball behind David Jensen after a free kick. Ten minutes before the end of the game FC Utrecht seemed beaten by Vitesse. The 221 Vitesse supporters were celebrating, the team from Arnhem thought they had taken the lead. But, after consultation with his assistant Angelo Boonman, video referee Edgar Bijl decided to cancel the goal: offside.

FC Utrecht goal also cancelled
It stayed 0-0, but if the disallowed goals were counted, it would have been 1-1. After fifteen minutes into the game the FC Utrecht supporters were celebrating. Sander van de Streek scored and La Cucamarcha was played. But 1-0? No, the video referee noted that it was offside, so the goal was disallowed.

Spectator record
All that happened in sunny Stadium Galgenwaard. A stadium visited by 22,064 supporters. That was a new record for Eredivisie match between FC Utrecht and Vitesse. The old record from season 2006/2007 with 21,029 was crushed. The supporters did not get to see many chances this time. FC Utrecht and Vitesse, close to each other in the ranking, were also matched on the pitch.

Saves by Jensen
One FC Utrecht player who will definitely make it to the highlights is David Jensen. The goalkeeper prevented Vitesse midfielder Martin Ødegaard from scoring with his good saves.

Saturday: FC Emmen -away
