FC Utrecht were unable to take any points from De Kuip. Trainer/coach Jean-Paul de Jong’s team lost 3-1 against Feyenoord.

Yes, there was a bright spot on the Rotterdam horizon. But at the time Utrecht were 2-1 down and preferred not to look at it. But there seemed to be chinks in the home team’s back four this afternoon. And FC Utrecht pressed them. And had chances. Sander van de Streek had a shot. A hard shot by Mateusz Klich forced keeper Brad Jones to do his very best.

Larsson strikes
But then Feyenoord struck. Jens Toornstra had a chance to cross the ball and that’s what the former Utrecht player did. Sam Larsson was waiting at the far post. The Swede headed the ball into the net. There were still 20 minutes to play but the verdict was already in: 3-1.

Quick equaliser by Dessers
In the first half FC Utrecht had been able to turn the score round. After an early 1-0 by Nicolai Jørgensen – the Dane scored after all the early chances had been for Utrecht – the Dom city team rolled up their sleeves and had even more attempts on goal. After half an hour’s play they were rewarded with a goal. Cyriel Dessers tapped a Labyad cross in from close range: 1-1.

Van Persie shows his class just before half time
The tea had already been served in both teams’ dressing rooms and the first supporters had already swapped their seats for a place in a queue at the catering outlets when Feyenoord took the lead again. Robin van Persie put the ball in the far corner out of David Jensen’s reach a minute before half time: 2-1.

No luck
After the break Utrecht again set about equalising and hoped for something even better than a draw. But they couldn’t repeat their first half success in the second. Utrecht left Rotterdam without any points: 3-1.
