For the second time in four days, FC Utrecht took three points in Stadium Galgenwaard. Earlier this week they beat Sparta Rotterdam, Saturday FC Utrecht were too strong for PEC Zwolle: 2-1.

The ball was put on the penalty spot far into the extra time. Reinold Wiedemeijer pointed towards the penalty spot, PEC Zwolle got an opportunity and Mustafa Saymak took the opportunity and scored. The goal was not much more than a minor disappointment on a good evening of football for FC Utrecht. The goal was the 2-1 and the game was almost finished and therefore already decided.

Strong
FC Utrecht started strong against the Zwolle team. They put pressure on Diederik Boer’s goal immediately and turned that up little by little. After good fifteen minutes the Zwolle team succumbed. Sander van de Streek came up and passed the ball to Gyrano Kerk -- he renewed his contract two days earlier -- who opened the score: 1-0.

Festive
The supporters in Stadium Galgenwaard started to feel optimistic then. It got even more festive when about five minutes after the opening goal La Cucamarcha popped out of the speakers again. Zakaria Labyad benefited when Boer had to release a ball shot by Mark van der Maarel. Labyad was in the right place and also finished perfectly: 2-0.

Third
After that goal there were good opportunities to score a third one, but there was none. That was also because Boer had some very good saves. Saymak then did score, but that did not matter for the outcome of the match. Three points for FC Utrecht, non for PEC Zwolle. And with that FC Utrecht approached Zwolle up to one point in the rankings.

Anniversary game
For defender Mark van der Maarel FC Utrecht – PEC Zwolle was a milestone. It was his 200th Eredivie game for FC Utrecht. You can read more about that milestone here.
