SC Heerenveen - FC Utrecht 2-3

24 september 2007

On Sunday FC Utrecht also won the away match against Heerenveen. In a pretty attractive match with two offensive teams, many chances and five goals, FC Utrecht ultimately got the long end of the stick. Already after one minute and sixteen seconds FC Utrecht took the lead in Friesland.  George made his way through the centre and at the right time he gave a cross to Nelisse, who lifted the ball over Vandenbussche. The 0-1 was the beginning of a very strong opening stage by FC Utrecht. Especially George was in a splendid form. With his speed he managed to get through from the right side a number of times. Also a shot by Sanmartean just missed the goal.

Until that moment Heerenveen´s only threat in the first half came from the swerving corners by Pranjic, which were always dangerous. The ball ended in the FC Utrecht goal twice via Dingsdag, but the two goals were rightly disallowed. Firstly the ball was knocked into the goal by Dingsdag with his hand and ten minutes later he waylaid goalkeeper Vorm with his action.

After those first strong twenty minutes of FC Utrecht, Heerenveen became stronger. The home team had a few good chances, but they handled them carelessly. The best chances were for Sibon and Bradley. They appeared before Vorm unmarked, but failed in completing the job. In the last quarter of the first half also FC Utrecht got round to attacking again. Nelisse was launched well but was taken off the ball and Keller had a chance with a header from a corner.

Also after the break, there was never a dull moment. Quite early in the second half Heerenveen scored the equalizer. Vorm was able to block a cross by substitute Matusiak, but in the rebound Bradley rounded it off. Right after that Heerenveen went on the hunt for more, again via Bradley. Vorm threw himself before him and in that action he collided with his knee into the American. The goalkeeper continued playing, but thirty minutes before the end he was substituted by Grandel. Earlier in the match Sanmartean, who played a somewhat unfortunate game, was substituted by Rossini. In the 61st minute he seemed on his way for the 1-2 after a long ball by Broerse, but he aimed in the side net.

The two teams did not want to settle for one point and fully fought for the victory. Five minutes before the end Nelisse scored 1-2 with a splendid action.  Two minutes later the equalizer was scored again.  In a miraculous way the third goal failed to be scored by the Frisians.  After having hit the cross-bar twice, the simple header finally fell prey to Grandel. In the final minute FC Utrecht ultimately became the lucky winner, when substitute Rossini scored after a free kick was changed direction.

´It is incredible that we win the match after all´, John van Loen said, commenting on the hectic moments in the final phase before Grandel´s goal. ´We were lucky that Heerenveen did not have a keen eye in their completion. Heerenveen deserved a draw. But it is nice to see that even though our outdoor game was less successful, we manage to win after all.´

After five rounds of matches this meant the second consecutive away win. FC Utrecht have now already gained the same number of away wins as they did last year during a complete season.  Next Wednesday the next away match is forthcoming, and FC Utrecht will then be playing against Feyenoord in the Cup tournament.
